Drawing from the formal language of Shaker furniture, Stool examines the boundary between functionality and ornament. The turned poplar legs derive their contours from the artist’s handwriting, converting gesture into structure. By preserving the visual cues of utility while denying its use, the work questions what makes an object appear serviceable—and what remains when that purpose is removed
