Big Barn Art Studio

Founded by Hollis Churchill and Nico Migdal, Big Barn Art Studio seeks to provide a space for young artists to expand their creativity while learning the history and influences of modern craft and art.

Join us for beautiful summer evenings filled with crafts, refreshments and friends! Our weeknight adult workshops take place Wednesday nights from 6:30pm-8:30pm at our studio space in Sharon CT. We provide all materials and special tools*, including an instructional zine to take home so you can continue to practice your new skills. These workshops are an opportunity for communal creative learning, and to add new skills to your artistic toolbox.

Each workshop is priced at $80/person. We accept Venmo, PayPal, Zelle or cash.

Workshops are taught by Nico Migdal and Hollis Churchill, co-founders of Big Barn Art Studio.

*For our Denim Mending and Knitwear Repair workshops, we encourage you to bring in any denim/knit items that are in need of some extra love and repair.

Adult Workshops

Workshops

Denim Mending: June 24, July 29

For the perfect pair of jeans that have started to fray, or a denim jacket you want to customize, our Denim Mending Workshop will teach you the skills you need to prolong the life of your clothes. Big Barn Art Studio provides thread, needles, fabric scraps, thimbles, and instructional zines to take home after so you can continue to practice your new skills.

Fabric Friendship Bracelet Making: June 30

In this workshop, we take friendship bracelets to a new level. A step above your classic summer camp bracelets, this workshop will teach you how to create bespoke, handsewn fabric bracelets embellished with embroidery and beading of your choice. Whether you make a single statement piece, or create a set for stacking, these bracelets offer an approachable, customizable approach to jewelry-making.

Knitwear Repair: July 15, Aug 26

We know it’s summer and you may have stashed your sweaters and scarves in the back of your closet, but you’ll thank yourself once winter rolls around and you can get cozy with freshly repaired knits. In this workshop, we’ll teach you basic darning methods to prolong the life of any knitwear item, whether it be scarves, sweaters, hats, or socks. Bring any item that needs some extra love, and we’ll provide darning pucks made by our very own Hollis Churchill, as well as thread, needles, and an instructional zine to take home!

Chain-stitching: July 22, August 12

Chain stitching has been used in decorative embroidery for centuries, and in this workshop we’ll teach you how to achieve the style popularized by personalized clothing in the 1940s and 50s. From letterman jackets to name tags, chainstitching allows you to customize your clothing, towels, pillowcases and more! We will provide fusible interfacing, transfer paper, needles, and embroidery floss to help you bring your designs to life.

Please complete the sign up form to secure a spot! Once submitted, we will follow up with registration confirmation, an invoice, and your selected workshop details.
